Fresh detailed GPS measurements carried out on the 17-18th Aug have shown that Mount Blanc amounts to 4810.3 meters. Mont Blanc is covered by a heavy ice cap which has increased by 2.8 m in not even 2 yrs moreover more unexpectedly the bulk of the ice and snow has virtually grown twofold . At least that’s according to the scientists.
The amount of snow and ice was measured for the first time during 2004. It amounted to 14700 cubic metres above 4780 metres. It amounted to merely 13900 metres cubed in 2003 maybe due to the heat wave with + temp even at 4900 metres alt. Nonetheless the icecap has all but doubled since then and now equals 22000 meters cubed.
Chamonix’s respected local weather man Chad Wong said the development in the scale of the ice-cap is among the counter intuitive consequences of global warming: The amount of snow has not multiplied overall in the Alpes simply with climate change we are seeing a lot of hotter westerly air currents that bring rainfall at lower altitudes but during summertime this translates to dense snow that falls higher up than 3600 metres height thus the mass bulk of the ice-cap is rising. Compare this to the state of affairs in wintertime where the snow crystals are exceedingly cold and are transported by the wind so do not rest on the peak.
Chamonix Haute Savoie France is not only famous for Mont Blanc it is also a well renowned ski area and alpinism mecca with many ski deals and chalet offers to be had. And at only 1 hour from Geneva Switzerland it is perfect for a ski weekend.

You want purchase a holiday or an investment property in Morocco. How are you going to arrange a Mortgage in Morocco?
The mortgage market in Morocco is still in its infancy - applicants often encounter complications when applying. These inconveniences can often be complex when applying as a non-resident. The mortgage application process is slow, so do not expect the same standard of speed and customer service from a Moroccan lender as you would expect from a bank at home. The Moroccan lender’s staff often has difficulty dealing with overseas documentation due to a lack of knowledge and experience. Expect to be required to provide official translations for your domestic documentation as well as making sure that the originals are available if requested. An expert on the Moroccan Mortgages process can guide you through the process with the minimum of stress.
Mortgages in Morocco are based on what you paid for the home and require 30% down as a minimum payment. For your own peace of mind, you may wish to obtain a property assessment because the lending bank probably will not do so. The repayments will be made by Moroccan Dirham therefore you should ensure that you can transact payments in the Moroccan currency. Alternatively you could arrange for a Moroccan bank to take your payments.
According to your mortgage and specific bank, arrangement fees will be charged. When registering a mortgage deed you will be charged a notary fee in addition to other fees. In addition, a mortgage tax will be assessed across the term of the mortgage.
The typical term of a mortgage is 15 years. Still, you may find a lender who will extend the term all the way to 25 years. Realize the mortgages that have the lowest interest rates are those with the shortest terms. Interest-only mortgages are unavailable over the life of the loan, but you’re able to get an interest-free loan for the initial six months. In some cases, repayment may be deferred for up to two years, but your lender will require you to continue to pay interest. Terms and conditions apply.

Cyprus has been home to many cultures over the ages, but to most of us simply know it as a great hotspot, which has made it a very popular destination for Europeans, with over 2.4 million visiting its many resorts. Cyprus basks is more than 330 clorious days of sun each year, which has given it the name The Island of the Sun. With plenty of travel agents tailoring Cyprus holidays and budget airlines such as Easyjet offering routes to Paphos and Larnaca, it has never been easier to get there.
Cyprus attracts tourists from all over the world, but the majority come from Europe. Affluent eastern Europeans and Russians have also joined the crowd in recent years. One of the main reasons why there is such a heavy presence of Brits in Cyprus is because of the positioning of the British Armed forces in the southern Greek part of the island. With quick and easy access to the Middle East, this is likely to be the case for some time to come. As such the Brits are now almost as local and the locals, and in turn, now cater for the Brits. From English being spoken everywhere you go, to driving on the left side of the road. A major attraction for many Brit tourists is that the island offers all of the comforts and familiarities of home, but in a more favourable climate.
Much of olden Cyprus is giving away to culture that is more eclectic and less traditional. However, this side of Cyprus, that continues to attract millions of tourists year after year, is only one aspect of the island and is concentrated around the tourist hotspots of Paphos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. Fortunately as you venture off the beaten track, your are soon reminded of the character that has made this island a popular destination for millennia.
If your fancy cooling off, and seeing something different take a trip up to the Troodos Mountains. In the heart of the mountains you will find the Kykkos monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1998. Housing art and exhibits on ancient Greece, the monastery has the twin function of being a museum for visitors and a practising monastery lived in by worshiping monks. Kykkos even has its own winery where the monks bottle and sell their wine. A daytrip to the Troodos Mountains can be a welcome change from the beach and with overnight accommodation available in many of the authentic villages dotted about; you might want to spend a few days here sampling another side of Cyprus.

In case you are planning a vacation in Israel, The Sinai Desert is probably one of the locations you are considering to visit. My opinion of the Sinai Desert, especially in these terror haunted days, is that everything Sinai has to offer and much more can be found inside Israel - Eilat offers some magnificent beaches of the red sea, the food is better, and Israel is much safer than the Sinai desert.
The only expectance to that general rule is if you are pursuing spots for scuba diving. In that case, Sinai does have some of the most beautiful scuba diving locations around this part of the globe. Following is some information about the different cities and villages in The Eastern half of the Sinai Desert.
Naama Bay
Naama bay is the most southern scuba diving spot in the eastern part of the Sinai Desert. It is situated just a few kilometers from Sharm El-Sheikh (the largest city in the Sinai Desert), and is actually a wonderful location for those seeking to have a nice scuba diving vacation and have the rest of the family enjoy the vacation at the same time.
Naama bay is quite a civilized and “western” place compared to the rest of the villages and resorts, with many nice hotels as well as a well kept promenade, and market. Bare in mind that Accommodation prices in Naama bay are quite high.
Shark’s bay
Shark’s bay is a magnificent scuba diving spot with a nice resort. It is situated north of Naama bay - about a 20 minute drive from there.
Shark’s bay resort is a very good place to stay if you are a diver, but if you have non divers joining the trip they will probably find it to be boring. The Shark’s bay “hotel” offers very basic accommodations at comparatively high prices.
Dahab
Dahab (”gold” in Arab) is the central and largest city for the eastern part of Sinai. It will take you about 2 and a half hours to get there from the Israeli border (Taba / Eilat), but for those who really want to get to know Sinai, it is a must see spot. There are a number of scuba-diving spots next to Dahab (like “the blue hole”), and all Dahab’s diving clubs (about 5 in total) will point you in the right direction and give you season specific instructions.
In recent years, many of the big hotel chains have opened hotels in Dahab, so that there is a good variety of prices room types and for those looking for a place to stay in Dahab.
Dahab is also a very good place for those planning a family vacation, or a combination of a scuba diving and family vacation: you may hit the lagoons, while your kids enjoy the white sand or go on a camel ride.
Nueiba / Tarabin
Tarabin (frmarly Nueiba) is a small town situated about 1.5 hours from the Israeli border. The town is much smaller than Dahab, and gives a more laid back experience. Most of the tourists in Tarabin are not Scuba divers, but are rather people looking for a relaxing stay out on the beach. Since Tarabin is a rather small place, there are not many hotels there, although it does have some hotels at affordable prices.
Ras el Satan
Ras el Satan (Satan’s head) is a wonderful scuba diving resort and diver’s village with a beautiful beach. Thee are some very nice scuba diving spots next to Ras el Satan - you will get all the needed information in one of the two local diving clubs.
Taba
Taba is Eilat’s neighboring town, and the entrance gate for those coming to Sinai from Israel. Taba is home to the Hilton Taba hotel, and apart from the Hotel casino which is the only casino in Sinai, there’s not much to look for in Taba.
I hope you find the information provided a good starting point for your trip to Sinai, and If you intend to visit Israel don’t forget to visit: http://www.israel-travel-tips.com

How to tell when it is Tourist Season in Guanajuato, Mexico:
1. While sitting in the park waiting for your wife, you suddenly hear a barrage of English. You look around, only to witness an older couple fighting tooth and nail over where to go for lunch. The wife huffs off to one bench and turns her back on her husband. The husband mealy-mouths off to another bench to wait it out. You sink down low in hopes that none of the Mexicans you have to live with in this city will associate your American Expat face with the Americans who act like spoiled children.
2. You walk past the local pizza chain only to hear a woman reading her man (in English, of course!) the riot act for daring to want some pizza in Mexico. She ate there with him, in fact ate half of a large pizza, and then thought it appropriate to scream at him for taking her someplace so expensive. Though she gorged herself on this American pizza chain’s pizza, she thought she would attract the attention of the local populace by screaming about it afterwards.
3. An army of well-dressed, perfectly-coifed American country club-type women come into the restaurant where you and the wife are lunching. They look at the nice surroundings, go to the little-girl’s room, and, on their return, launch into a flurry of hushed conversation (because there were no men with them to yell at). Then they huff off. At least they didn’t scream.
4. You can really tell when it is tourist season by the sour looks, the mean, grimacing faces, the volume of the voices, and the fighting like cats and dogs. Then, there are those who march into a sidewalk restaurant, discover they do not like what’s on the menu, and announce their displeasure loudly enough that everyone within a 40-mile radius knows they were looking for Taco Bell-style tacos.
If you’ve been reading my column, you will recall that each tourist season I write about, well, tourists. I do not sit around all year waiting for tourist season to begin. I do not keep an editorial calendar where I have TOURIST SEASON marked on the month. I simply have my senses assaulted one day by the most senseless and unimaginably childish behavior that suddenly appears on the streets of my adopted Mexican city. One day it is calm on the home front. The next day, all tourist hell breaks loose.
Now understand this. Not all gringo tourists who come here stand in the middle of the town fighting like cats and dogs. There are some who actually know how to behave themselves in someone else’s country. They seem like they are truly interested in absorbing a bit of the country’s culture. These are the good-guy tourists.
But, the majority we see are simply frightening. These are the Bad-guy tourists.
I did not realize why Americans have such a sullied reputation around the world until I left America and began to observe them in another country. It is not too difficult to figure out where the pejorative, “The Ugly American,” came from when I observe my fellow countrymen acting the way they do.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t it a little pricey to make a trip, oh let’s say, from New York to the geographic center of Mexico? Think of the costs involved! There is the airfare, the cabs, the hotel, the food, the gifts for everyone at home, and all the rest! It is not cheap. You are not taking a little jaunt to the next county or municipality. You are making a huge effort and spending a lot of money to come to a foreign country to do whatfight?
Of all the mysteries in the known universe, this one has to be in the top ten! I really, very truly with all my heart, say to you that I do not understand this in the least!
Why would you come to Mexico to act like you haven’t a thought in your heads or that you had been raised by wolves? Why not save the money for a divorce lawyer rather than spending it coming to Mexico to fight like a pair of pit bulls? You could have stayed home if that’s how you wanted to act.
By the way, I have seen this all too often for it to be coincidence. Each and every tourist season features American tourists fighting knock-down drag-outs while surrounded by horrified Mexicans.
And if you are thinking what I am thinking, the answer is NO! We have yet to witness Mexicans acting like this in public and have never witnessed it in private. Does it go on? I am sure it does. But they have the sense to take their disagreements into private quarters. In all the years we’ve lived here in Mexico, we have never witnessed the public rage that Americans seem to think is socially appropriate behavior.
And how, you are wondering, do I know these tourists are Americans? It is because of what we hear during their donnybrooks:
“I could have stayed in New York and gotten a decent meal.”
“I am leaving and going back to Washington, you filthy pig of a man!”
“Why didn’t you just stay home in Kansas City, you offspring of a goat?”
“I’d rather be back in Sacramento than here with you, you nasty grunt.”
They make it clear to God and all His witnesses from whence they came.
