You’ve decided to invest in a beautiful oil painting
reproduction. You have an idea of the type of painting you’d
like, but you’re still unsure about making the purchase. This
anxiety is normal when considering a reproduction purchase for
the first time. Knowing the right questions to ask will enable
you to make a wise purchase.
Unlike machine-generated copies, oil reproductions are
hand-painted replicas of original paintings, which are created
by an actual skilled artist. You’re naturally concerned about
getting great quality. Here are four things you should know
before buying an oil painting reproduction.
Know Your Artist
The artist is key to getting a fine reproduction that matches
the original. You’ll want an artist who is both talented and
trained. Talent only is not enough. Any good artist can throw
together a reproduction that’s similar to an original, but
formal training is usually necessary to be able to match
originals precisely. The artist must be able to study the
original artist’s hand strokes, style, etc. to get a true grasp
on how to recreate the painting. It’s best to buy from a company
that specializes in reproductions and has experienced artists
available at all times.
Know the Techniques
Another important thing you should know about reproductions is
how they’re created. What materials were used? What methods were
used to put the painting together from start to finish? The
entire process of creating a reproduction is important - not
just the painting. The canvas, oils, brushes, lighting (while
painting) each contribute to the finished work.
Know the Important Terms
Here are several terms you’ll need to be aware of when
considering an art reproduction:
1. Canvas - Find out if the canvas used is of high quality.
2. Oils - The oils used should also be high quality for
long-lasting beauty.
3. Stretching - When buying online, your painting might arrive
rolled up and unframed. In this case, you or someone will need
to stretch the painting onto stretcher bars (wooden bars
attached to the back of the stretched painting) before framing.
Check with local framing shops to see if they will do this for
you.
4. Varnishing - Varnish protects your painting reproduction from
light rays and humidity. Find out if the painting has been
varnished, or if you will need to do it yourself. If you plan to
do it yourself, you’ll have to wait about a year for the
painting to dry completely. Varnishing is optional.
Know How to Care for Your Reproduction
If you find a great reproduction painting, you’ll want to care
for it the right way. Before making your purchase, make sure you
have a place to store or display the painting that’s away from
direct sunlight and usually dry. Extreme sunlight or humidity
can lead to flaking or cracking over time.
To clean your oil painting, use a soft cloth to dust the frame
and a soft bristled brush to dust the actual painting. Feather
dusters also work very well. Never apply moisture or chemicals
to the painting.
Knowing how to choose a painting and what to expect will help
you make an informed decision. The right oil reproduction
painting is a prize to be treasured for a lifetime.

OK, you are eating healthier meals and now you want to get your
family to exercise together. First, sit down and talk about the
different things you all like to do. Give everyone a turn to
come up with a week’s worth of activities. Numerous studies have
shown that if you exercise for 30 consecutive days it becomes a
habit. So once you all get past the first month it will become
routine and part of your lifestyle. Just remember to keep it fun
and give everyone a chance to participate in coming up with
different things to do. Everyone wants to give input, no one
likes to be told over and over what to do!
One of my favorites is dancing. Everyone gets to pick their
favorite music and you all get to dance to it. It is also fun
for the younger generation to watch the older one dance.
Another favorite of mine is swimming. If you have a YMCA,
community center, or if your school is lucky enough to have a
pool see if you can get some swim time in. You can also get
creative here also with different types of swimming, races, or
water ballet. Another option if you have the pool to yourself is
pool volleyball!
One great game the whole family can play is Twister, plus it has
the added advantage of stretching all those muscles. Be sure you
play enough games to get those muscles warmed up (4-8 games).
Since weather is one of the main reasons why many around the
country don’t get outside to walk, try going to the Mall. Walk
at a nice brisk pace for at least 20-30 minutes or less if you
feel you are getting short of breath. Then since you are there
reward yourself with some window shopping. If the mall isn’t
your thing, pick another indoor facility where you can do some
brisk walking.
Many who walk keep track of their steps with pedometers. They
are inexpensive and people love the feedback of how many steps
they did in a day. Get one for everyone in your family and see
who walks the most steps in a week. Whoever wins gets to decide
on the menu for a week, doesn’t have to do any clean up or
chores. Or you could have prizes you give away.
Since I am into weight training and especially enjoy circuit
training, you could try something like circuit training in your
home. You could start with stretching; and then move to running
up and down the stairs; then some floor exercises, such as sit
ups, side bends, push ups. If you have some type of equipment,
like a treadmill, bicycle, Gazelle or something along these
lines you could also add that into the circuit. Do each activity
for a couple of minutes or one repetition and then move to the
next activity or “station”. You could also place each activity
in a different room and walk briskly or jog to each “station”.
Get those creative juices flowing and I am sure in no time you
can come up with a whole bunch of other fun activities. Enjoy!

Thinking of buying a hammock to relax and unwind? With so many
hammocks on offer, it is difficult to decide which one is best.
Discover the pros and cons of different types of hammocks and
which hammock will be the best for you.
Hammock retailers offer hundreds of different hammocks, but all
of them can be divided into three groups according to material:
fabric, rope and string hammocks. Each material has its pros and
cons.
Fabric hammocks can be quilted, or made of cotton or mesh. A
well-made fabric hammock is durable and doesn’t require much
maintenance. Fabric hammocks are comfortable, and cotton fabric
offers the most comfort. Unlike rope hammocks, there will be no
prints on your body. Fabric hammocks are also very good for
young children - their little fingers and toes won’t get caught
in the holes. On the downside, fabric doesn’t provide much
ventilation. So if you lie in a fabric hammock on a hot day, you
might get a bit sticky. On the other hand, fabric is an ideal
choice for cooler climates.
A rope hammock is the first thing most people think of, when
picturing a hammock. Rope hammocks offer the most traditional
look. They are usually made from cotton or polyester rope. They
are very durable, don’t require much maintenance and cost less
than other types. A big advantage of a rope hammock is that it
“breathes”, letting you get the most benefit from breezes on a
hot day. Rope hammocks are reasonably comfortable, but the rope
might leave impressions on your skin. Hammocks with smaller
spaces between the ropes are more comfortable.
The last type is string hammocks, which are also called Mayan
hammocks. String hammocks are hand woven, and most of them come
from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua or El Salvador. They are
reminiscent of tightly woven webs made of fine cotton, in a
weave that might take more than a mile of string. String
hammocks are the most decorative - they come in exotic, tropical
colors, to create a relaxing holiday atmosphere.
Mayan hammocks are extremely comfortable and provide good
ventilation, but don’t leave any prints on your skin. They are
also very light-weight, so string hammocks can be used for
camping or taken to the beach. There is one disadvantage though
- it is easy to damage a string hammock. Any sharp object can
easily cut the string, so they are not as durable as rope or
fabric hammocks.
One more thing you should know is that rope and fabric hammocks
can have spreader bars at the ends or be stave-less (traditional
hammock without bars). You might think that spreader bars add
comfort, but in fact it is the other way around - hammocks
without the bars are more comfortable, because they wrap around
your body better. If for appearance reasons you prefer hammocks
with spreader bars, go for hammocks with 3 hanging points
instead of just 2 - these have much less chance of tipping over.
How much a good hammock would cost?
You might be surprised to find out that a good hammock might not
cost much at all. Rope hammocks are usually the cheapest, but
you can also find a very good Mayan or fabric hammock for under
a hundred dollars. That is of course if you already have
suitable trees. If not, you will also a need hammock stand. In
this case, you would be better off buying a package (hammock and
a stand together). You can get a good-looking, safe and
comfortable package for 200-250 dollars, even though some
decorative wooden stands cost as much as 500.
The best way to shop for hammocks is to look at online stores
that sell discounted hammocks.

There are approximately 13,000 reported injuries due to
snowmobile accidents in the United States each year.
Additionally, there are over 100 deaths due to snowmobile
crashes each year. Some deaths are the result of the operator
being pinned under the vehicle, and over two-fifths of reported
deaths are the result of collisions with trees, other vehicles,
bridges, and wires. There are also deaths reported that are
caused by the vehicle entering water or falling through ice.
Here are some tips that will help ensure your safety while
operating a snowmobile:
Never ride a snowmobile alone or across unfamiliar territory.
Having a partner will provide an extra measure of safety in the
event of a breakdown or accident.
Ride only on established trails and clearly marked areas. Avoid
water and frozen lakes. It is impossible to judge the thickness
or depth of ice.
Watch the trail in front of you very closely. There could be
hidden rocks, barbed wire, or other obstacles in your path. You
should avoid operating a snowmobile in bad weather. Check for
warnings regarding snowstorms and rain before starting.
Always slow down at the top of a hill or snow bank. There could
be an unexpected hazard on the other side. Also, do not attempt
to jump or hurdle snow banks. You will only have control of your
snowmobile when the skis are firmly on the ground.
Take the time to learn the snowmobile laws and regulations for
the area you are in. Each state has its own requirements and
rules in regard to snowmobiles. Use common sense when
approaching roads or railroad tracks. Make sure you signal each
turn you make and watch for other vehicles. Control your speed
according the conditions in which you are riding.
Use extra caution if you are operating a snowmobile at night.
Unseen obstacles can be potentially fatal. Drive only as fast as
your headlights will allow you to see safely. Never attempt to
navigate new trails at night.
Do not operate a snowmobile while drinking. Numerous accidents
occur each year to due driving a snowmobile after consuming
alcohol. Make sure the vehicle you are driving has been properly
maintained and is in good operating condition. Snowmobiling can
be exciting and very safe if you observe the proper precautions
and use common sense while riding.
