Australia’s Rachael Grinham may soon be swatting squash balls against world number one Nicol David after making her way to the semifinals of the Hong Kong Squash Open tournament by beating Madeline Perry of Ireland.

Grinhan defeated Perry in four sets 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, avoiding a fifth set decider after clinching the needed points at the crucial moments.

Standing in Grinham’s route to the finals of this prestigious tournament is Egypt’s Omneya Abdel Kawy who continued her remarkable run in the tournament.

Kawy blasted past French opponent Camille Serme in three straight sets 11-3 11-6 14-12 to earn her berth in the final four.

Meanwhile, world number one Malaysian squash player Nicol David continued her winning form in the tournament after defeating Jenny Duncalf of England in straight sets 11-2, 11-6, 11-8. The score indicated that David is in dominating form in the tournament. She has yet to lose a set coming into the semifinals.

David also won the World Championships held in Amsterdam last month, solidifying her place at the top of the rankings. Next up for the 26-year old squash phenom is Laura Massaro, who stunned Alison Waters of England in five sets 11-7 11-8 4-11 8-11 11-3.

On the men’s side, Egypt’s Karim Darwish will face compatriot Amr Shabana in the semifinals. The other semifinal match will be between Gregory Gaultier of France and England’s James Willstrop.
